Aspen. Overview.
You can’t get posher than Aspen which is Colorado’s glitziest high living resort. They play hard, ski hard and are the richest skiers in the world. But there is plenty of fun to be had for the not so rich, and ski slopes for beginners too. There are handsome downtown red brick buildings in equally fascinating contrast to the sparkling slopes. Its scenery will stop you dead in your snow boots. It is so beautiful it takes your breath away. Especially in the Autumn when the aspen trees look their best is a display to lodge in the memory for ever. Aspen is an athlete’s mountain with more than 3000 of vertical drop. The best cross country skiing in the area is Ashcroft in the lovely Castle Creek Valley with 20 miles of groomed trails passing through a ghost town. In spring Summer and Autumn, Aspen is less crowded and it is a great time to hike which is Aspen’s other popular outdoor pursuit in September and October, when the yellow leaves of the aspen trees provide a stunning difference to the purple shades of the Maroon Bell Mountains. But it is the skiing that brings people back year after year to remind themselves just how beautiful life can be. The skiing attractions in Aspen are second to none.
