Squaw Valley. Overview.
Having maintained its successful reputation as a huge ski resort since the 1960 Winter Olympics, Squaw Valley is a major resort at the North end of Lake Tahoe, with different kinds of ground to ski on. Stunning slopes surround the woodland with six interconnected peaks. Its 1,619 hectares of typically beautiful Sierra Nevada land is about 70km from Reno. It is considered one of the best resorts for advanced skiers but is also wonderful for beginners and intermediates with 450 inches of snow a year. Advanced skiers love its wide open bowls and steep couloirs There is a floodlit park and half pipe for those who are at that standard. The gondola can take you up to the mountain base for ice skating and night skiing.
Accommodation to keep up with the resort’s popularity, has been built to become a village called Intrawest. This is a series of low buildings and apartments which have been constructed around traffic free streets. With restaurants and shops too, it has an Alpine feel to it.
